Intervention

At Whitianga Psychology I offer in-depth psychological assessment and intervention support to young people and their families. I support the behavioural, developmental, cognitive, and emotional needs of young people and adults who have special needs, emotional or behavioral challenges, and/or are medically fragile. I consider the psychological factors related to coping with chronic illness or developmental issues, including issues with adjustment, transition and settling into a new environment, difficulties between parents and children, complying with recommended treatment and challenging personal and family dynamics.

I believe in a multi-disciplinary approach, and I use current best-practice and documented intervention approaches to assist you. Family involvement is absolutely critical to ensure the success of those with academic, emotional, and behavioral difficulties. Additionally, it is of vital importance to work with other professionals (medical practitioners, pediatricians, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists etc.) and academic professionals (teachers, teacher aides, members of the school leadership team) to achieve success.

Confidentiality and privacy is always upheld (subject to the Privacy Act 1993 and the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003), and I only communicate with other providers and orginasations upon your consent and written request. See FAQ for more information.

benefitS OF SERVICE FROM A PSYCHOLOGIST

  • I have received training designed specifically to help advance healthy child, adolescent, and adult development and psychological growth by implementing a combined series of services involving prevention and intervention support.

  • I work collaboratively with parents to assist young people to make sense of their unique developmental and/or social needs, leading to personalised interventions that will improve family dynamics and enhance the young person’s success. Your family will be supported with the greatest respect and discretion.

  • I work hand-in-hand with professionals (community, medical, and school) to provide dependable, developmentally appropriate, and excellent psychological intervention and support.

  • I am able to assist families of young people who present with special educational or behavioural needs. My recommended educational accommodations are aimed at optimising the learning of each young person, while also being the least restrictive as possible.

For what it’s worth: it’s never too late to be whoever you want to be. There’s no time limit, stop whenever you want. You can change or stay the same, there are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. And I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you never felt before. I hope you meet people with a different point of view. I hope you live a life you’re proud of. If you find that you’re not, I hope you have the courage to start all over again.
